How to Leverage Your Intrinsic Motivation:

Self-Awareness

Once you discover your Intrinsic Motivation and understand why you do what you do, you begin to see your world in a new way.  The following two statements characterize the value you will realize by leveraging your Intrinsic Motivation.

“To be the ‘best you can be’ always starts with ‘who you are meant to be’.”

“Be affirmed in who you are…and be free from the strain of trying to become who you aren’t.”

The Three Areas of Life That are Impacted:

1.  How You Work

You can map the type of work you best enjoy and will be most productive directly to your Intrinsic Motivation.  This work will provide the deepest sense of internal motivation.  Even if you do not have the perfect job, you can influence your level of satisfaction and success by making adjustments that will better align to how you are intrinsically motivated.  It also has the potential of helping identify any areas that generate the most drain at work by giving you a strategy that will help you address them in a constructive manner.

2.  How You Communicate

Your unique Intrinsic Motivation provides a natural filter for how you communicate to others as well as how other people hear what you communicate in return.  Many find that they communicate best with those who share a similar motivational mix and may not connect as well to those who share a different mix.  Awareness of how you are Intrinsically Motivated will help you understand why you communicate the way you do and better understand what other people are prone to hear and interpret from you.

3.  How We Collaborate

Collaboration involves both how we work and communicate together.  Effective collaboration around a shared purpose is a core competency required by organizations that need to solve complex issues.  These teams will find the most success when each member aligns their job or project responsibilities in a manner that are congruent to their Intrinsic Motivation.
